A Visit With Abigail Adams

Township Supervisor Paul Olson and his wife Andrea enjoy a visit with Abigail Adams.
The Tredyffrin Historic Preservation Trust Spring 2008 Lecture Series was privileged to have First Lady, Mrs. John Adams, wife of the Second President of the United States, as their honored guest lecturer on Wednesday, April 30. Arranged by lecture program co-chairs Glenna Keene and Gretchen Kiernan, “A Visit with Abigail Adams”, as portrayed by Marianne Connolly, was presented in the historic chapel at New Seasons in Devon. Over 75 guests enjoyed a wine and cheese reception prior to the talk.

During her visit, Mrs. Adams shared many special and significant events of her life and travels and discussed how they related to the times in which she lived. The First Lady spoke about her early childhood, education, family life as the wife of John Adams (especially her years living in Philadelphia) and gave her reflections and perspective on the War of Independence and the development of the new nation. Marianne Connolly dressed in period costume and presented her talk in the first person. At the end of Mrs. Adams presentation, she was pleased to answer questions from her fellow citizens and guests. The audience enjoyed this special opportunity to visit with Abigail Adams!
